Week 5 - Good ideas.

-Alhussain Ali TP078072

Good ideas are not generated out of thin air. Instead, they expand upon preexisting ideas and knowledge, we wouldn't be able to grow as a society and would be limited to the most fundamental concepts if every writer had to construct their own writing system or every app developer had to recreate the internet. The more we produce and develop, the more we use prior knowledge to boost our creativity and innovation, leading to the generation of ever-more complex concepts. Simply watching the world around us or pulling from own experiences can inspire many clever ideas. This could be recognizing an issue that requires attention or, depending on personal experience, spotting a chance for development. Innovative ideas come from attempting to resolve particular issues or difficulties. When faced with an issue, people frequently discuss various remedies, which produces creative ideas. Coming up with good ideas also requires having networks of concepts that expand and link with one another. Networks can be anything from online communities to actual communities to anything in between.

Ideas normally come to life from what already exists and the social capital therefore, progress is witnessed in the society. Since everyone would have to make up their own writing script, each of the app makers would have to recode the internet for themselves. Thus, it would have no progress and growth would be static. In the other side, from accumulation of previous knowledge base, we serve as an engine to creativity and innovation.

We gather the knowledge about something if we consider our own life and feelings of the self that may begin a creative process. Finding social issues reinforces the inventive approach that also makes the fresh engine that drives for the solution more exciting. It just takes a moment of the chat of the issues to give rise to the creation of multiple solutions to the problems.

While individual channels are developing both online and offline, they form a point of entry where the interconnection and display of innovative ideas and creativity takes place. Introducing such a network allows people to make use of their brains and consequently helps to expand projects engaging various spheres.

A “Good idea”, or what might some people call a “eureka”, is when a serious of neurons make a connection, the connection does need to meet several requirements which may include motivation, prior knowledge, or even the willingness to reach to a new idea (Jesuis, 2019).

Despite that, there are some steps that a person can take to assist themselves to find a good idea at a faster rate, which include, but are not limited to: Lateral thinking, Perspective Shift, Intentional Conflict. Lateral thinking is the process of finding similarity between patterns and looking at the situation from a different perspective,  An example can be: A man walks into a café and orders a glass of water, instead of being served water the waiter pulls a gun on him leading to the man leaving the café happy, the man had hiccups and the shock induced from the waiter pulling the gun helped the man get cured. Perspective Shift is the process of changing your point of view to think in another person’s shoes, An example can be when a store owner visits his shop as the customer. Intentional Conflict is to conflict yourself and ideals with another person’s ideals, For example, there is a conflict between 2 people, 1 views social media to be dangerous as it can easily leak information and spread wrong information and another person views it to be fruitful with information and a way to meet people (shiftcomm, 2024).

Good ideas stem from observation, curiosity, collaboration, creativity, problem-solving, learning, and reflection. By observing the world, being curious, and exploring different perspectives, individuals can uncover new insights. Collaboration and communication with others can spark innovative solutions through brainstorming and teamwork. Creativity and imagination play a crucial role in thinking outside the box and exploring unconventional possibilities. Problem-solving and continuous learning help address challenges and stay informed. Reflection and iteration refine ideas through feedback and adaptation. Overall, good ideas emerge from a combination of these factors, fostering a culture of innovation and impact.

To generate more ideas,.
Engage in Observation Sessions: Make time to expose your mind to different viewpoints. People-watching in cities like Manhattan, for instance, can stimulate original thought by observing a variety of behaviors.

Read More Books: Include reading in your daily routine to widen your perspective. Books are a great source of inspiration because they spark new ideas and perspectives and help you generate your own. A quick look around a bookshop can stimulate your mind.

In today's world, good ideas are not simply random thoughts that come to mind by chance but rather have become a result of techniques and methods that many institutions follow at present to promote better ideas that can be transformed into new innovations that make our lives easier.

One of these methods is asking the right questions, as good ideas come from good questions, and because often to come up with innovative ideas what you actually need is spending more time on studying the question itself, as Einstein once said, “If I were given an hour in which to do a problem upon which my life depended, I would spend 40 minutes studying it, 15 minutes reviewing it and 5 minutes solving it” (Amin, 2016).

Another method that may sound simple but is effective in communicating and exchanging ideas,  as Steven Johnson wrote in his book, “Where Good Ideas Come From”, innovation is a collective process, not an individual one that focuses on sharing and merging ideas together, and by that, the good idea can emerge (Giakoumakis, 2023).

Good ideas often come from interactions with others and exchange of different viewpoints. Usually there is something that leads to the thought process for a good idea.  The secret to invention is to create spaces where ideas may interact and exchange. Which is most common in conversations amongst friends, co-workers, and other close people

There are many ways and strategies to fetch good ideas. For example, the person can generate as many ideas as possible through brainstorming . Even if most of them are not good enough, the person can still find something that may work amongst all the ideas. Second of all, the person should know what they want, because the most innovative solutions come from addressing personal needs or challenges. Third of all, use word associations to spark creativity. Lastly, engage in independent brainstorming. Research shows that people working by themselves developed twice as many solutions to creative puzzles as those in groups.

In conclusion, the generation of good ideas is not a spontaneous process, but rather a systematic one that can be nurtured and developed with the right strategies and environment.
